Willow Rods for Basketmaking

At the Yarner Trust we grow several varieties of willow for basket making. These are used extensively by students on our courses who like to use material that is locally grown without the aid of sprays and pesticides. This also enables us to use varieties that are not commonly available and provide colour and texture in our baskets.

Basket Making Courses

A popular course is always Hedgerow Baskets. This builds on the tradition of the artisan basket maker who used the materials around him to make strong functional baskets. We combine these materials with creativity to make objects which are both beautiful and functional.

Varieties for Sale

Mixed bundles of basket making willow are available for collection from the Yarner Trust. These are supplied freshly cut (green) and contain a variety of willows from the delicate Dicky Meadow to the more robust Noir de Villaine. These can be used for stakes and weaving rods in traditional stake and strand basketry, for christmas decorations, for hoops for frame baskets and a variety of other uses. In addition the willow can be dried and resoaked to use later in the year.

Prices

Bundles start at £10. Please contact the Yarner Trust to discuss your requirements.
