Yarner Willow Beds
Willow is a wonderful material which has a wide range of uses. Here at the Yarner Trust we have been growing willow since 2003 principally to reduce dependence on bought in willow for courses and other activities. Varieties were carefully selected to provide willows suitable for a range of uses including living willow structures, basket making and garden features. Each year the stock has been increased using our own cuttings andl now the whole site is under production.
Yarner Trust willow is available to purchase for living willow structures. Cuttings of our carefully selected willows are available to grow in your own garden or on your land. All willow and cuttings are chemical and spray free.
We are able to use our own willow to supply courses run at the Yarner Trust. We have several experienced tutors who are also basket makers and favourite workshops include Baskets from the Hedgerow, Onion Baskets and Weaving for gardeners. Each year we try and find new projects to run and courses are suitable for beginners and those with some experience.
We also run a Living Willow Structures course in the spring and willow from the Yarner Trust lives on in schools and private gardens in the form of play domes, fedges and tunnels.
The Yarner Trust Willow Group meets on a regular basis. This group was inspired by attending courses and wanting the opportunity to practice the weaving skills.
Our group of fantastic Yarner Trust volunteers turn out regularly in the autumn and spring to help with cutting, sorting and transporting the willow for its eventual uses. Over the years they have put in many hours work, made good friends and enjoyed the fantastic views from the willow beds.
