Course Schedule and Enrolment
Summary
Explore ways of creating texture and pattern by applying fabrics and threads, which are then embellished with machine embroidery. The fabric created will be used to make a small bag. A choice of bag patterns will be provided, plus hints and tips for successful bag making
More Information
Students will be taught how to set up their sewing machines for free motion embroidery and then use remnant and recycled fabrics to create a unique fabric which will be used to make a small handbag. Full instructions will be given.
Student Requirements
Please make sure you bring the following to the course:
- Domestic sewing machine – bring all tools and instruction book
- Darning foot for sewing machine
- Sewing kit – scissors (fabric and paper), pins, tailors chalk etc.
- Wooden kebab stick
- 25cm embroidery hoop – inner ring covered with bias tape – optional, but useful to have with you!
- ½ metre of Calico
- Sewing threads in various colours – Gutermann, Sylko, Drima etc
- Machine embroidery threads if you have them
- Notebook and pen/pencil
- Small pieces of fabric – about A4 size – various textures, patterns and weights – e.g. chiffon, silk, cotton, velvet
- ½ metre of Bondaweb (optional)
- Scraps of thread and trimmings – e.g. knitting yarn - plain and textured, lace, ribbon
- About ½ metre of fabric for back of bag, handles and lining
