Course Schedule and Enrolment
Summary
The hedgerows are full of material which can be used for the making of baskets. Bramble, vines and larch cones can all be combined with colourful willow to make a unique and useful container. Beginners will learn some traditional techniques and finish the day with a basket to be proud of.
More Information
The course is run over two days and will be a step by step introduction to basket making.
Day 1 will cover selecting materials, use of tools and some of the terminology. Day 2 will cover more complex techniques and include a presentation showing a gallery of baskets.
The course will be practical with students learning on their own project. We will learn a traditional English round base, staking up, weaving the sides and a simple classic border. We will also discuss the tools that are traditionally used by the basketmaker and where to buy them. A selction of baskets will be on display to provide inspiration. At the end of the course students will have learnt several techniques and have a basket to be proud of.
Student Requirements
Please make sure you bring the following to the course:
- Penknife
- Pair of sharp secateurs
- Bodkin if you have one
- Notebook and pencil
- A contribution to a shared lunch
