SPECIAL MEDIA INVITATION
The Yarner Trust can host a number of complementary
press visits each year. If you are a writer with an interest in sustainable
living and would like to take part in a course on behalf of the publication you
write for, please ask. We can provide a range of accommodation, from Yurts to a
character full room in the
660-year old Barton itself.
Discover A
Hidden Gem of Sustainable & Creative Living In Glorious North
Devon
The Yarner Trust is a charity that has spent the last
three decades introducing families to a more sustainable and creative way of
living and we aim to give our visitors an authentic experience of ‘The Good
Life’ updated for 21st century living. With a double-dip recession
looming, our work has never been more relevant.
We’re based in a stunning Grade II Medieval farmhouse tucked away in almost the
last outpost of North Devon; straddling the Cornish borders and in a coastal
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Those who have already discovered us come
back, again and again, to immerse themselves in this creative, supportive and
sustaining environment. This is not ‘eco’ with horsehair but fun,
family-orientated and inspiring living.
In 2012, we’d love to share our ethos with more
people from the rest of the country and so have compiled our activities
programme to appeal to all ages, from all walks of life. Whether you’d like to
join us for a quiet retreat, Tudor bread-making, willow weaving, green building
or good old-fashioned spinning, Yarner can help introduce you to a whole new
set of increasingly relevant rural skills.
Our new 2012 programme launches in the February
Half-Term with an exciting and unique series of workshops for the whole family
to come and enjoy. Adults and children can choose from living history (Tudor)
activities, creative crafts or forest skills and as well as being fun and
educational, the underlying aim is to inspire families to share experiences,
build stronger family bonds and, as a result, learn to work more harmoniously
together.
All the activities we offer
are led by our own team of highly experienced crafts men and women who are all
deeply passionate about inspiring our visitors to lead a more sustainable and
creative life.
There is a minimum age of 6 for children and a day
(10am-1pm) costs just £5* (Adults) and £3*(Children).
*The cost
of all these activities is being subsidised by the Yarner Trust to help all
families, regardless of their income, achieve this important goal. We also
offer further Concessions for families on low incomes.

Notes to Reporters/Editors:
Ethos
The Yarner Trust (charity) promotes sustainable and
creative living, runs rural skills and creative courses and offers educational
school visits and sustainable living summer camps.
Hidden Gem
We’re located in a small village called Welcombe, just
a mile from the sea, and on North Devon’s Heritage Coast
path. We’re within walking distance of one of the region’s most stunning
beaches at Welcombe Mouth - a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and itself
owned by the National Trust. The region is part of England’s only UNESCO Biosphere
Reserve and popular with walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, holiday-makers, divers
and, of course, surfers! And we’re just minutes from the A39; the main route
between North Devon and Cornwall.
History
Welcombe Barton was built in 1350 and was the manor
house of the village. The name Barton comes from the Latin word bere meaning barley and ton meaning store.
The Yarner Trust, set up originally in conjunction
with Dartington Hall, has been promoting sustainable and creative living for
over 30 years.
