Restoration Village: making the programme

Earlier this year English Heritage put forward the name of Welcombe Barton as a recommended project to the programme makers of the BBC2 programme Restoration to be included in their next series.

A slight variation on the last run, the new series is entitled Restoration Village and is planned to be broadcast during the Summer. The theme for the series will be the restoration of a listed community building and its place in the village. A team from Endemol, the programme makers, have visited Welcombe Barton and after due consideration of all the properties on their short list concluded that our lovely buildings would be the best candidate to represent Devon in the South West Challenge.

Trustees and Staff are delighted that its historic buildings and its community work have been recognised in this way and now has the opportunity to promote within the programme not only The Yarner Trust, but also the other community facilities that we have in this little coastal parish.

The filming process took three days to complete and some interesting aerial shots were taken via the use of a small crane which lifted the camera high above the buildings. An amazing view down to the sea (if only it had been a clear day!).

When the programme is broadcast, viewers have the opportunity to vote for the building they would most like to see win the financial support to restore their buildings.

As supporters of the Trust, we would please ask you to take the time and vote for our building and in doing so you will help them remain here for future generations to use and enjoy.
