The restoration of the two buildings' stone and cob walls, roof and ancient beams, is vital for the work of the Trust to continue. A wide range of rural skills courses are run by the Yarner Trust including straw bale building, yurt making, lime rendering, rain water harvesting, as well as many creative willow and textile courses.
At Welcombe Barton, we would like to restore the barns which are made of stone, cob and slate, to provide a really first class venue for school groups visiting our Rural Skills Centre.
We have also asked for funds to restore the back of the farmhouse where a large crack in the wall has been a worry to us all for a number of years.
An estimate of re-roofing the barns, restoring the cob, all the stone work that is needed in the barn and the house is a little in excess of £250,000 – figure far beyond the resources of The Yarner Trust.
